Sunday afternoon update

I hope you all are out enjoying this beautiful day! It is just about as good as it gets this time of year. I’m still tracking a strong cold front that will be coming through on Tuesday. It looks like we could see some heavy downpours of rain the first half of the day Tuesday. I think there’ll be enough instability and forcing along this front to give us some thunderstorms. I don’t think we have severe wx to worry about, but I’ll keep an eye on it. There could certainly be some strong storms just to our west, especially around Nashville.

Both Monday and Tuesday will be breezy days, so be aware of that. Winds could gusts over 20 mph on both days. You might want to secure any lose objects and think twice about burning any leaves, etc. Once the front passes on Tuesday, temps will begin to drop. This will be our first good hit of colder weather of the season, but we’ll still just be about 10 degrees below normal for December. We’ve been so mild that this will be a shock to our system, though.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see a few flurries Tuesday night, but they shouldn’t stick to anything. I may add them to the outlook above in later outlooks, depending on what the situation looks like.

A reinforcing shot of cold air arrives with a disturbance on Friday, bring a better chance of snow flurries and snow showers. It’s still way to early to talk any accumulation (which would be very light), so I’ll hold off until more model data comes in over the next couple days. Highs next weekend will struggle to get above freezing on Saturday, and on up into the 30s on Sunday. Still, this is nothing record-breaking and more typical of what we would expect with a strong December cold front. It would be nice to see some snow flakes!

I hope you all are having a wonderful Sunday and that you are enjoying this unseasonably warm weather!
