Better weather is on the way!

Whew! We made it through a very dicey and icy Monday morning! I don’t know about you, but I could do without the freezing rain. You want some really good news? We are now above freezing and we won’t go back below freezing again until Friday night! Now that’s some good news!

We are now up to 35 degrees here at TAP and the temp will continue to slowly rise as we go through the day. I’m forecasting 40 for a high, but we may manage to creep a degree or two above that. FYI, please be careful if you have to travel east toward Knoxville today. The cold air is being stubborn and does not want to leave that valley. Their winter wx advisory has been extended until noon.

Well, I have more good news and a little bit of bad news in this forecast. The good news is that it’s going to warm up! Check out that high on Thursday! I’ll admit that I may be too low on those high temps for both Wed and Thurs, as we may get closer to 60 on Wed and I may have to adjust that 60 up a few degrees for Thursday.  The bad news is that we’re not going to see a lot of sunshine this week. That’s usually the case this time of year. As soon as our winds turn to the south they not only bring up warmer air, but they also bring in moisture from the Gulf of Mexico. We’ll keep some sprinkles/showers around for both Wed and Thurs, followed by more substantial rain on Friday. I’ll be tweaking this forecast as we go through the week. That rain on Friday is from a strong storm system that will push another cold front through here, dropping us back down to more winter-like temps for the weekend.

I will add that I’m going to have to keep an eye on Friday night and Saturday. I thought about putting the yellow caution tab on Friday P.M. for snow, but I’m going to hold off for now. Notice that we drop back below freezing Friday night. If there’s moisture left over from our storm system on Friday, we could be looking at some light snow Friday night. I’ll keep an eye on it and monitor the guidance that comes in over the next 24-48 hours before I make any judgement call on that. Just keep that in the back of your mind if you have plans Friday night or Saturday morning.

Below are some pics I’ve seen on social media today from this morning’s icy mess on the plateau. You all stay warm and dry today and get ready for those warmer temps this week!
