Afternoon update on tonight’s rains

Rain is knocking at our door. The latest radar shows showers increasing to our southwest and moving our direction. Expect a very rainy night. This is the radar at 3:08 p.m.

Flood watches have been issued for Kentucky. While we are not expecting widespread flooding here in TN, we will see heavy downpours that will lead to ponding of water on the roads. Be careful on your Wednesday morning commute.

We’re very lucky, once again. The cold air is trapped to our north but the rain will fall into the cold air mass. Winter storm warnings (pink) are being issued for significant snow and ice accumulations. Ice storm warnings are being issued for Arkansas and southeast Missouri. Widespread winter weather advisories for freezing rain and/or snow are also in effect (purple counties). Our precip Wednesday could end as flurries, with no accumulation.

The weekend is looking very wet, so don’t plan any outdoor activities. The good news is that there are no indications of arctic air coming, so all precip for the next week to ten days will be liquid.

I am also happy to report that the Falcon heavy launch was successful this afternoon. If you missed it, I’m sure it will be on the news tonight.  I’ll also have more on this tomorrow.

It looks like our dream of going to Mars in 2030 is getting more real by the day.

You all have a great evening and try to stay dry!
