Snow! And on the first full day of spring!

Picture22

SUMMARY

Did someone forget to tell Ma Nature that today is the first full day of spring and not the first day of winter? March never fails to impress me with the level of crazy the weather can reach. We’ll see snow flurries/snow showers off and on for most of the day. Temps should rise above freezing by this afternoon. When that happens, say “goodbye” to the snow! The good thing about March snows is that they melt before they have time to get dirty and ugly. They’re here one minute and gone the next. We should see some sun on Thursday, before the pattern begins to become very unsettled once again. The chance of any mixed precip Friday morning is slim, but I’m not ready to rule it out just yet. By Friday afternoon, we’ll be plenty warm enough for liquid precip, though I think showers during the day will be few and far between. The much better rain chances kick in here for Friday night and Saturday morning.  Showers should become more isolated for our Sunday, before more substantial rains move in early next week.

All my snow pics from this morning are at the bottom of this post.

DISCUSSION

Last night’s system brought some decent snow showers to the plateau. I had exactly one inch on the roof of my car, but I’m not sure how much snow melted before it started sticking. I, of course, took lots of pictures. This could be our last snow of the season.

The rest of today will be quite wintry. Snow showers and flurries will likely persist through at least the first half of the day.

As we get into Thursday night, we have another system that could bring us some light wintry precip. Most forecasters have dropped it from our forecast completely, but I’m not on board with that just yet.  I’ll keep you posted. The chance is slim, I’ll admit.

More widespread rain moves in Friday night and Saturday, along with warmer air from the south. I think we may get a bit of a break on Sunday, before the next series of rain makers move in for next week. Next week looks VERY wet. We may even be talking about some flooding issues. At this point, it does not look like we’ll be dealing with much (if any) severe weather. Heavy rainfall will be the primary hazard.

Like I said, I got out and took lots of pictures this morning. I’ll share them below. You all have a great day and enjoy what could be Winter’s last big hurrah!

I just noticed in the records this morning that on March 22, 1968 we had a big snowstorm hit TN. I’ll have more on that tomorrow.

This would have looked nice for Christmas! ha
And, that’s Bella. She loves the snow and went around wallowing on it and running her nose through it.
