Alberto is on the way

I’ll try to be brief, as I’m sure the last thing you want to be doing on Memorial Day is reading a blog (ha). Expect scattered showers and t-storms today, mainly in the afternoon and evening. Not everyone will see rain but about half of us will. I still have a dry garden here in Rinnie, so I won’t complain if one of those showers parks itself here today (ha).

Scattered showers are noticeable on radar but a lot of that activity in East TN will dissipate in the valley. It develops from upslope on the other side of the mountains but as the rain moves down into the valley it falls apart.

Rain increases in coverage and intensity tonight. A flash flood watch goes into effect Tuesday morning and that will be with us until Wednesday morning. Watch out for some flash flooding on area roadways as rainfall becomes heavy at times. We also have a chance for an isolated tornado, as we do with all tropical storms. Any spin ups will be isolated, brief, and weak. The main threat is from the rainfall.

Winds will be from the east tomorrow and it will be a breezy day. Those breezy conditions should stick with us through Wednesday. The rainfall will decrease on Wednesday and will not be as widespread or heavy as it will be on Tuesday.

As for the rest of the week, look for scattered mainly afternoon/evening showers and t-storms. Activity should become more isolated by next weekend.

This morning I got the garden all worked out and ready for the rain! It ain’t easy work but it sure will be worth it when I can walk out to the garden this summer and come back to the house with dinner. Tomatoes, corn, squash, green beans, cucumbers, potatoes, okra….does it get any better?

Last but CERTAINLY not least, please don’t forget why we have Memorial Day. Fine men and women that you’ll never know gave their life for a freedom that we can never take for granted and never stop fighting for.

You all have a good safe Memorial Day. If you hear thunder, get indoors!
