This week: The heat
A very hot and humid pattern has settled into the area, folks, so be careful in that afternoon sun. We certainly can’t rule out an isolated shower or storm any day this week, especially with humidity levels climbing. And any storm that forms, of course, will be capable of producing lots of lightning and heavy rainfall. Those storm chances will remain rather low the rest of this week, with today and Sunday being your best bets for seeing any rain.
Beryl became our second hurricane of the 2018 season yesterday and it has already reached category 2 status, with winds of 105 mph. The storm is expected to strengthen just a bit more before beginning to weaken and spin away into cooler waters. The storm poses no direct threat to the U.S.
The remnants of Beryl continue to be disorganized today, but it will be moving into a more favorable environment over the next few days as it moves toward the Bahamas. Regeneration of the storm is certainly possible. If it should become a tropical storm again it will continue to be referred to as Beryl.
I found another one that may cool you off a bit! On this day in 1888 heavy snow fell on Mt. Washington, New Hampshire and the peaks of the Green Mountains. The snow nearly reached the base of those mountains! For perspective, just a week or so ago many places in Vermont and New Hampshire were hotter than us, with temps in the 90s and really high humidity. Many places have broken records.
Last night’s Meet the Candidates event at the Cumberland County Playhouse went very well. If you missed it you can find it on the Cumberland County Playhouse Facebook page . I included the link to that below. I am about an hour and 8 minutes into the video (if you want to jump to mine). We went in order by district and I am district 7, so it took a while to get to me (ha).
