Michael now a major hurricane

Hurricane Michael now has winds of 120 mph, making it a very dangerous cat 3 hurricane. More strengthening is possible before the storm makes landfall near Panama City. Hurricane-force winds extend out 45 miles from the center. This will be catastrophic near and where the storm makes landfall. The new forecast has the storm making landfall with winds of 125 mph, though it’s possible this is a conservative forecast.

The storm will move rather quickly inland, reducing the impact of major flooding. However, the fast forward motion will carry the wind threat farther inland. This will cause widespread power outages and very dangerous travelling conditions through southern Georgia.
