Hurricane Michael is now making landfall just east of Panama City. There is a report of at least one car containing hurricane chasers being swept away by storm surge. They were last seen abandoning the car. No word yet on what has happened to them.
Maximum sustained winds at landfall were estimated at 150 mph, with higher gusts. This makes Michael the most powerful hurricane to ever make landfall on the Florida Panhandle, as well as one of the most powerful storms to ever make landfall in the U.S. I dread seeing the destruction. I just hope the death toll stays as close to zero as possible.
