A nice day to get outside!

Main threats

Sunday night – Tuesday: Heavy rainfall that could cause significant flooding issues.

Summary

If you get outside today make sure you stay out of the mud! (ha) Hopefully, we can dry out a lot today. The next rain system arrives tomorrow.

There is still a slight chance that the precip may begin as a wintry mix in the morning, but I don’t foresee any major problems. Still, if you’re out and about early in the morning just keep that in mind.

Then, the rain begins in earnest. Some of that rain will be heavy at times through Tuesday. If you live in a flood-prone area you need to monitor this situation closely. As must as 3-4 inches of rain is possible across the plateau.

We clear out Wednesday, with a return to sunshine.

Records

On this day in 1994  a strong arctic front crossed Middle Tennessee. At midnight, the temperature in Nashville was a very warm 70 degrees. That was at midnight! That was ahead of the arctic front, in the warm air of the warm sector. The front passed through in the early morning hours of the day, sending temperatures plunging. By noon, snow was falling in Nashville. That became a mix of freezing rain and snow by evening, accumulating to one inch by the next morning. Temps fell into the lower 20s through the night.

On this day in 1934 the temperature at Vanderbilt, Michigan dropped to 51 degrees below zero, establishing a new state record low. The temperature at Stillwater, New York dropped to 52 degrees below zero, setting an all-time record low for that state. That was a cold day, folks!

News

By the time you read this I will be on my way to West Tennessee to run the Race on the Trace. It’s a 5-mile race in the Natchez Trace State park, near the beautiful Natchez Trace Parkway. This is my first time running this race, so I’m excited to be checking it out! I’m also very grateful that the weather is cooperating. Wish me luck! The race is a late one, starting at 11:00.

If you have never been on the Natchez Trace parkway I urge you to check it out! It’s a gorgeous drive and definitely one worth checking out! Here’s a link to it for you to learn more (https://www.nps.gov/natr/index.htm).

You all have a great day and get out and enjoy the nice weather, before all that rain sets in!
