Heavy rain has ended…for now

Good news! The heaviest of the rain has ended for the day. There will be scattered showers around the rest of the day, but the heavy downpours and storms have ended. That gives us 2.62″ of rain in the past 24 hours here at weatherTAP. That puts us right on track for that 2-3″ for this round. Some parts of the plateau had a bit more rain than that, but most of us saw the 2-3″. Nearly everyone in Middle TN, including the plateau, is under some type of flood advisory or warning at this hour.

Below is the current radar. All activity is moving northeast.

Models continue to show a surge of moisture coming back tomorrow evening, with heavy rain once again likely Friday morning. Another 1-2 inches of rain is possible with that rain. That is followed by a very intense line of storms that are expected to be developing across West TN Saturday afternoon and pushing east. Hopefully they will weaken as they near the plateau, but it’s something to keep an eye on. The storms on Saturday could also bring an additional 1-2 inches of rain to the plateau.

The last thing we need is a straight-line wind event Saturday evening. With all these trees sitting in saturated soil it wouldn’t be too hard to end up with numerous uprooted trees.

We’re still on track to end up with 4-6″ of rain, on average, across the plateau by the time Sunday gets here. Some folks could get even more than that, but most of us should stay in that 4-6″ range.

I’ll be looking over all the latest data first thing in the morning and giving you a full update on the Thursday night/Friday rain, as well as the Saturday evening severe storm threat.

You all have a good evening and be careful driving home. There are a lot of flooded roads around the plateau.
