Summary
We will see scattered showers and storms around today. In between these times we will see some sun. It’s a very late spring/early summer pattern we’re in. The strongest of storms should stay well to our west, though one or two strong storms could pop up on the plateau. Widespread severe t-storm activity is not expected. This rain will be good for the flowering plants and for getting pollen levels down!
Showers and storms continue for our Friday and on into our Saturday. If you have outdoor plans be sure and keep an eye on that radar. Always be mindful of lightning.
Rain chances drop for our Sunday and we may just see an isolated shower or storm around.
Our next decent shot at rain and storms may hold off until next Wednesday.

Records
The worst flood in Nashville’s history began on this day in 2010. Nashville set a new one-day record rainfall of 7.25 inches. A two-day total would add up to 13.57 inches. That’s more rainfall than most tropical systems drop on the coast! The Cumberland River at Nashville reached its highest levels since flood control began, reaching a maximum height of 51.86 feet! Eighteen people lost their lives across Middle TN from the flooding.
The cause of the flooding was a stalled frontal boundary interacting with copious amounts of Gulf moisture.
Overall, the flooding experienced in Nashville during this flood was worse than that of New Orleans in Katrina. However, our emergency management was MUCH better equipped to handle it and that made a huge difference. This was also not in the news so much because this all coincided with the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf, as well as a failed car bomb in Manhattan.
