As expected, storms are now approaching the plateau at this hour. Storm reports have shown trees and powerlines down, as well as a fireworks tent blown away. So, nothing too extreme has been reported. Storms do seem to be maintaining intensity, if not slightly weakening. Stay weather aware, as these storms are expected to vary in intensity as they pass over the plateau. The main threat should be over with by 11:00. I’ll keep you posted on that and I’ll stay with you until the all-clear can be given.
I will note that this is just one of many disturbances that will affect us over the next 24 hours. Another disturbance is prompting a severe t-storm watch for southern West TN and Mississippi that will run the remainder of the night. More complexes of storms could affect us into Thursday.
But first, let’s get through this initial complex.
Below is the current radar, showing most of the severe storms south of I-40. Again, any of these storms could go severe at any moment. The tornado threat remains very low. As you can tell, some of us are in for some very heavy rainfall!
