Afternoon weather update

Skies are growing darker across the plateau this afternoon, and showers and storms are developing all across the region. Remember, we have a flash flood watch that runs through 10:00 p.m. The NWS Nashville reminds us of some flood safety tips.

The Storm Prediction Center has also raised the threat for severe t-storms to the slight risk category for this afternoon for most of Middle TN, excluding the plateau. Any storm that develops, even for us, could have frequent lightning, heavy rainfall, and gusty winds.

The Storm Prediction Center just released a discussion about our area, stating that they do not anticipate issuing a watch, despite upgrading most of the midstate to a slight risk. The area circled in red is the area they discussed. I turned the radar off, so that you can see the lightning strikes in the image below. You can also see the flash flood watch (counties outlined in green).

Finally, that area of disturbed weather in the Bahamas has gotten better organized. The National Hurricane Center now says the system has a 60% chance of developing into a depression or storm. The system will affect the east coast of Florida in the coming days. I’ll keep an eye on it!

You all have a great afternoon!
