Once in a, er, black moon?

We’ve all heard the saying, “Once in a blue moon”, which implies that it’s a rare occurrence. That’s true, as a blue moon occurs every one to two years. The moon we’ll have tonight is even more uncommon, occurring about once in every three years, and referred to as a black moon.

A blue moon is two full moons in the same month. A black moon is two new moons in the same month. A new moon is one that is completely darkened over. This darkening is in response to the moon being between the sun and the earth.

So, go out and look up and check out the….wait…you won’t be able to see it because it’s a new moon…. umm Well, go out and look up and see those beautiful stars that are even brighter since the moon is darkened. There. Nice save, right? 🙂

I wonder if this will make people especially crazy tonight?…….
