Friday Night Update on Saturday’s Storms

WHAT: Strong to severe t-storms

WHEN: Saturday afternoon (1:00-6:00)

I just wanted to give a quick update on the storm potential for Saturday. It still appears that thunderstorms will be possible during the afternoon. This threat is dependent on how unstable we get tomorrow.

Looking at the latest data, I don’t think the warm front will get this far north. That means we will have to depend on sunshine to warm us up enough for severe storms. That looks very questionable. However, if we get sunshine and we warm up nicely tomorrow afternoon, the potential for isolated supercells would be possible, with the threat of a tornado. Large hail would also be a concern.

My level of concern is unchanged from the last update. That level of concern will rise significantly tomorrow if we get sunshine. It will fall significantly if we don’t.

For daytime events, we need sun. Nighttime events aren’t so dependent on that. For night storms you have to keep a closer eye on the warm front and how much warm air it brings. Since tomorrow’s event is a daytime event, the sun is needed to really destabilize the atmosphere.

I’ll be keeping a very close eye on it for you all! I’ll have a full update for you in the morning.

You all have a good night.
