Threats

Indications are that we may see one or two complexes of storms move our way from the plains early next week. The threat from those would be damaging winds. I’ll keep an eye on that. Otherwise, no widespread severe weather is expected through at least Sunday.

Baldwin’s Severe Weather Concern

The isolated and short-lived nature of any storm keeps my concern on the low side of the scale.

As our next storm system approaches early next week, we may see some isolated severe storms across the plateau. There are also indications that we may see one or two complexes of storms develop on the plains and move our way during this period. If that evolves, my concern will increase, owing to an increased risk for damaging winds. I’ll keep an eye on that.

Baldwin’s 7-Day forecast

Wx Blog Slides - 2020-06-17T082044.174

Daily Forecast

Today: Partly cloudy with only a very slight chance for an afternoon/evening shower or storm.

Thursday: Partly cloudy with a slightly better chance for a storm.

Friday – Sunday: Partly cloudy and warming up! Only slight chances for an afternoon/evening storm.

Monday – Tuesday: Scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the afternoon/evening.

Baldwin’s Hay Day Forecast

Today is still looking great! I did have to change Thursday’s outlook to half a hay bale, though, due to a bit of an increased risk for an afternoon/evening shower or storm. The morning is still looking good!

The other change was to make Sunday a good hay day. The next system has slowed down a bit and it now looks like the better rain chances will hold off until Monday. Be aware that Tuesday may become a “red X day” in future outlooks, if rain chances continue to increase for that time period.

Yesterday’s National High and Low Temperature

High: 110 at Death Valley, California

Low: 26 at Bridgeport, California

Tropics

The only thing being watched right now is a weak system near the northern coast of South America. It has a 10% chance of becoming a storm. More than likely, unfavorable environmental conditions will be the death of this little system.

On this day in 1859 the Santa Ana winds were so hot in California that fruit was roasted on one side near Santa Barbara.

Next week continues to look cooler and wetter. That could be some good news for the gardens!

Weather News

On Tuesday, Mt LeConte had a high temperature of 52 degrees and a low of 34, with 1.6 inches of rain reported. With that morning low of 34 degrees, they came very close to having some June snow! The colder temperatures of compliments of a cold-core upper-level low sitting on top of that region.

You all have a great day!
