A line of strong storms and heavy rainfall is making its way across Middle TN at this hour. Numerous reports of flash flooding have been made. These storms do contain some gusty winds, as well, along with deadly cloud-to-ground lightning.
I have included a current radar image below. Each vertical blue line I’ve drawn represents one hour of time. The leading edge of this will be moving onto the western edge of the plateau around noon (Cookeville, Sparta) and on into Crossville and Jamestown by 1:00. Keep in mind that showers and even a t-storm could develop ahead of this line in this very humid and unstable air mass. We’re seeing one of those showers down near Chattanooga.
The NWS Nashville just shared this picture of I-40 near Hermitage. If you or anyone you know is traveling west this afternoon, please be careful. Some of this rainfall is quiet heavy.
Remember, we are in the marginal risk for severe storms for today. Any storm could produced a damaging wind gust.
