Ok, I know I’m a weather nerd but I just think this is absolutely crazy-cool. You all remember when we had a really good chance for showers and storms on Wednesday? If you recall, a big complex of storms over in West TN stole the energy for our storms. Remember, I sent out an update that evening saying our rain chances were practically over, thanks to that big complex of storms diving south across West TN. Most of us ended up with nothing more than a drop or two of rain, at best.
So, why do I bring that up now?
That very same complex of storms was so potent that it continued diving southeast, all the way to the Southeast coast of the US. There, it began to organize a bit more and now…..it will likely become the next named tropical storm of the 2020 season!
Hey, at least when I missed that forecast Wednesday it was for something bizarre, right? ha
I just thought I’d pass this along. Sometimes weather gets weird, but I suppose that’s why we all love it so much.
The video below is by Philippe Papin (@pppapin) via Twitter. It shows the progression of that complex of storms. It’s called an MCV on here because it was a mesoscale convective vortex. That’s a fancy name for a big complex of storms that has a spin about a center, like a little bitty area of low pressure. Pretty neat stuff, right?
