There’s been some breaking news from the tropics this afternoon. The good news is that Tropical Storm Gonzalo is struggling out in the southern Atlantic. He is no longer expected to become the season’s first hurricane. In fact, he may even dissipate within a few days.
The bad news is that Tropical Storm Hannah is strengthening. In fact, she is now expected to become the first hurricane of the 2020 season, just before making landfall on the Texas coastline Saturday afternoon. She looks healthy on satellite this afternoon.
In other news, the tropical wave coming off the coast of Africa now has a 40% chance of developing into a tropical storm over the next week. Chances continue to increase for that system and I suspect it will become our next named storm by early next week as it moves westward across the Atlantic.
