A new tropical storm forms

The National Hurricane Center is now tracking a new tropical storm across the Atlantic. In this morning’s blog, I mentioned there was a tropical depression. That depression has now strengthened into a storm, with winds of 45 mph. The storm is named Josephine.

The good news is the storm is not expected to impact the US. In fact, it should encounter harsh environmental conditions by early next week that should cause the storm to weaken substantially.

Josephine is the earliest tenth tropical storm on record. The previous record was Jose in the record-breaking 2005 season.
