Today’s National Wx Hazards
Accumulating ice can be found across western North Carolina and northeast Georgia, especially overnight. Farther west, accumulating snowfall will threaten parts of the southern and central plains, as well as the northern Rockies.
Tomorrow’s National Wx Hazards
A powerful winter storm will wreck havoc in the east, with accumulating ice in the purple striped areas and very heavy snowfall in the gray striped areas. Many areas will experience significant ice storm conditions. Within the heavy snowfall threat areas, many folks will see over a foot of snow. Quite the December storm!

The NWS always invites folks out to watch a weather balloon launch. Yesterday, the NWS in Great Falls, Montana had a special woodland visitor for the evening weather balloon launch. I don’t know about you, but he looks ready for spring to me!
NASA Nerdology
NASA launched the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) 11 years ago this week. This telescope and its four infrared detectors imaged millions of cosmic objects, like the Helix nebula pictured here. The bluish-green and red materials are the expelled remnants of this dying star!
