Meteorologist Mark’s Wx Thoughts (New!)
Tonight and tomorrow morning’s weather reminds me of what we saw Sunday morning. Some wet snowflakes that are unlikely to amount to anything because of warm ground temps and air temperatures staying just above freezing. Precip will be light and some of you all may not see a thing.
The Thursday to Friday system looks more interesting and I pulled out the snow scale. There will likely be adjustments to that scale as we get closer to Thursday and more data becomes available. The latest guidance would suggest a better chance for snow. I’ll keep a close eye on things. Confidence is low in that forecast right now but, again, stay tuned for changes.

A rain to snow scenario looks to unfold Thursday into Thursday night, possibly extending into Friday morning. Light snow accumulation is possible. Stay tuned.

1888 – Sacramento, California, received 3.5 inches of snow, an all-time record for that location. The heaviest snow in recent history was two inches on February 5th in 1976. Those poor kids…. (ha)

The plateau shows up in the rain/snow mix! That is mostly for the morning hours. Elsewhere, heavy snow and ice threaten the northern plains.
Weather Shots
I took this picture of the woods Sunday morning. The wet snowflakes tried to gel on the tree branches and it looked like ice when the sun came out. It didn’t last long but it lasted long enough for me to grab the camera! (ha) When you touched the branches the liquid reminded me of Jello.
NASA Nerdology
This NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope image shows galaxy NGC 6946. In the last century alone, NGC 6946 experienced 10 observed supernovae, earning the nickname the ‘Fireworks Galaxy’ (our Milky Way averages just 1-2 supernova events per century)
