Meteorologist Mark’s Wx Concerns

A low-end severe storm threat may develop for Monday. Timing and intensity of the storms are both questionable right now. I’ll be watching this closely and let you know if anything changes.

The severe storm threat is currently low for our area, but it is worth monitoring. That threat increases the farther west and southwest one goes from our area.

Meteorologist Mark’s Wx Discussion

At one point, I had a severe storm scale created for Monday and a snow scale created for Wednesday night. I’m no longer confident enough in snow to issue that graphic. That could change, but right now it’s looking like mostly rain, possibly mixing with snow.

The concern for severe weather has been gradually increasing. I still think this will be a predominantly rain (some heavy) event but I’m not comfortable with the storm track. Damaging straight-line winds and some hail look to be the main threats at this point. Farther south, across Mississippi and Alabama, the tornado risk is a bit elevated.

If the track of the storm system changes, the threat will change. I’ll be tracking that very closely.

This severe weather scenario is very typical of this time of year and I don’t expect a big outbreak of severe storms for our area. Still, the first thunderstorms of the season may pack a bit of a punch for some of us.
