48-Hour Precip Forecast

Meteorologist Mark’s Wx Concerns
At this time, I don’t foresee any issues with wintry precip this week. However, I am monitoring Thursday night very closely. Guidance suggests that we will see some wintry mix, but that it will be too light to cause any issues. Again, I am monitoring this very closely.
Meteorologist Mark’s Snow Day Forecast
Right now, it looks like there will be school the rest of the week. If Thursday night’s forecast changes, that could mean a snow day for Friday. Confidence is too low in that forecast to issue a graphic at this time. Stay tuned.
Meteorologist Mark’s Wx Discussion
The headache of a forecast continues! (ha)
Thankfully, today and tomorrow are worry-free weather days. In fact, it will be downright spring-like. By Thursday, we see changes coming.
The bulk of Thursday’s rain looks to be plain rain. As cold air slowly moves in Thursday night, we could see a wintry mix. Right now, that looks very insignificant. I’ll keep an eye on it.
Remember last week when I was worried about ice for our region? Well, that’s just off to our north and west. That’s pretty good model data! Here we are a week later and the ice is just to our north. Thankfully, the ice storm weather will stay to our north and west.
Saturday’s forecast has me raising eyebrows again. We may squeeze out another snow but details are murky, at best. The potential is there for accumulating snowfall, so stay tuned. We may see more chances for accumulating snowfall next week!
On This Day in Wx History
1994- A major winter weather event strikes the mid state. Temperature at Nashville at midnight is 70 degrees, but a strong cold front sweeps through, with temperatures falling throughout the day. By noon, snow begins as the temperature falls to 32 degrees, and changes to freezing rain by evening. At midnight, the temperature is 23 degrees. By the following morning, the ground is covered by an inch of snow and ice.
Almanac

Yesterday’s National Temperature Extremes
High: 90° at Miles City, Florida
Low: -43° at Cotton, Minnesota
Today’s National Wx Hazards
Freezing rain will overspread much of Oklahoma, spreading eastward toward Kentucky. Snow can be found across the Northeast and Great Lakes Region, and again across portions of the central and western US. A wildfire danger exist once again today in eastern New Mexico.

Tomorrow’s National Wx Hazards
Remember last week when I mentioned I was worried about ice this week? It is just off to our north and west and the bulk of that will stay away from our area, thank goodness! A large and destructive swath of ice can be found from northern Texas to Virginia. If you or anyone you know has travel plans to that purple-shaded region for tomorrow, you better pay close attention to that forecast. A swath of snow can be found to the north of the ice. More snow falls across the plains and Rockies, as well.

Weather Shots
I miss our snow but I’m ready for spring. Unfortunately, looking at extended outlooks offers little proof that Ma Nature is ready for spring.

NASA Nerdology
On this day in 2013, the Mars Curiosity rover drilled into rock for the first time! This was first sample collected from interior of a rock on Mars. The new Persevere rover also has a drill to collect core samples of Martian rock and soil after it lands in just 10 days! How cool is it that we drilled on another planet? Can you imagine the technology that went into this?

In Memoriam
Today, we lay my sweet Granny Jane to rest. I will be saying a few words at the graveside service this afternoon. We lost Paw-paw just 11 months ago. They had been married 69 years. Our hearts are breaking but we find a peace knowing that Pa and Granny will never be separated again.
“Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”
