Winter storm watches are in place for our winter storm coming Sunday night through Monday night. That watch goes into effect at 6:00 p.m. Sunday. Expect a variety of precip across the plateau from Sunday night to Monday night. Travel will likely be adversely impacted.
Be careful if you’re out and about this evening. Some of us have some dense fog once again, along with sub-freezing temperatures. That can, as always, lead to some black ice on area roadways.
My predictions remain unchanged from previous posts, so there’s no sense in restating all of that. Please refer to my previous post for that info.
I found this map on WeatherTAP of the current winter weather advisories, watches, and warnings. What an impressive map! I have never seen so many counties highlighted for some type of wintry weather. What’s most remarkable to me are the winter storm warnings all the way to the Gulf Coast! Impressive, indeed.
For those of us who stayed a bit colder today we already have some ice accumulation on trees out in open areas. This is from last night’s freezing drizzle and today’s fog. If this ice doesn’t melt tomorrow, those trees will, of course, be most susceptible to damage from the freezing rain coming Sunday night. This is a picture I took from a tree on the farm this evening. I was actually surprised to see this much accretion on the limbs. Again, this is isolated but there are some trees like this around the north end of the county and in Fentress and Overton Counties. I’ve also heard Monterey looks like a winter wonderland.

Hopefully, you’re all ready for the rough weather that’s coming. I’m stocked up on hot cocoa, cheese balls, milk, Cheez-its, and bread. I will survive. (ha)
