Severe T-Storm Watch until 8:00 a.m.

k

WHAT: Severe T-Storm Watch

WHERE: Cumberland, White and all counties south and east of there.

TIME: Until 8:00 a.m.

THREATS: Severe thunderstorms capable of producing damaging winds.

SUMMARY: Strong to severe storms will threaten our area overnight, in particularly from a potentially damaging line of strong to severe storms coming within the next couple of hours.

Please note that I will stay with you until I can give the “all clear” for all.

Please remember that there is no safe place in a mobile home.

Remember the checklist. Make sure the family pets can fit into your safe place with you and make sure the kids have something to do to distract them. Also, remember to wear your whistle. It can help people find you if you need finding.

Know the difference between watches and warnings. A watch means you’re WATCHing this blog, the news, the sky, etc. A WARNing means you are now being warned of imminent danger. You need to take cover.

Remember, get on the lowest level of the house, away from windows. You are essentially hiding from the storm. Put as many walls as you can between you and the outside. Use cushions, pillows, mattresses, etc. to protect your body from flying debris. If in a basement, get under a sturdy table in a corner, with helmets on, etc. Even basements can have issues, especially if debris falls into the basement.

Know where you are and know what’s to your west and southwest. Some of you still don’t know if you are north or south of certain locations. You need to figure that out (north is toward Kentucky). For Cumberland County, we watch White, Van Buren, and Putnam counties. You folks in Fentress watch Overton and Putnam counties.

You all stay safe and sound and I’ll update again as needed.
