Meteorologist Mark’s Wx Concerns

Almanac for Yesterday

Is this May or July? We now have TWO areas that have good chances of developing into tropical depressions or even tropical storms. One is out in the Atlantic and would only be a threat to Bermuda, as it looks right now. The other is in the Gulf and could impact Texas in the coming days. The official start of hurricane season doesn’t start until June 1st.

Sun & The Moon

Look for that Moon in the late afternoon sky! It’s big enough that you can see it, even as the sun is still shining.

On This Day in Wx History

1860 – A swarm of tornadoes occurred in the Ohio Valley. Tornadoes struck the city of Louisville, Kentucky and caused a great deal of damage. In Ohio, the cities of Cincinnati, Chillicothe, and Marietta were impacted by severe tornadoes that caused millions of dollars in damage.

Yesterday’s National Temperature Extremes

High:  105° at Rio Grande Village, Texas

Low:   21° at Calimus Butte & Crater Lake, Oregon

Today’s Tennessee Weather

It’s a sunny day in May across the state of Tennessee. What a fantastic way to end the week! Look for lots of sunshine and afternoon highs in the 80s statewide.

Tonight’s Tennessee Weather

A few clouds may drift into West Tennessee overnight, but the majority of us will see clear and starry skies. Look for mild overnight low temps in the low to mid 60s across the state.

Tomorrow’s Tennessee Weather

It’s a sunny Saturday, with just a few clouds drifting across the skies from time to time. Saturday is expected to be the warmest days we’ve seen thus far this year, with much of the state experiencing afternoon high temps that will flirt with the 90-degree mark!

Drought Monitor

The drought monitor is updated each Thursday.

NASA Nerdology

On May 19, 1932, Amelia Earhart took off in her red Lockheed Vega to become the second person, and first woman, to make a solo nonstop transatlantic flight. These first pioneers of the sky set the stage for flights that would eventually take us to the Moon.

You all have a great day and keep lookin’ up!
