On This Day in Wx History

1917 – A tornado touched down near the town of Louisiana, Missouri at around noon and remained on the ground for a distance of 293 miles, finally lifting seven hours and twenty minutes later in eastern Jennings County, Indiana! The twister cut a swath of destruction two and a half miles wide through Mattoon, Illinois. There were 101 persons killed in the tornado, including 53 at Mattoon, and 38 at Charleston, Illinois. Damage from the storm totaled 2.5 million dollars.

Today’s Tennessee Weather 

It’s a summer-like day across the state today, with clouds and sun and increasing humidity. A few of us will see showers and thunderstorms, especially in west and middle Tennessee. Afternoon highs will be in the low to mid 80s for West and Middle Tennessee. In East Tennessee, abundant sunshine will lead to highs near 90.

Tonight’s Tennessee Weather 

Showers and thunderstorms are possible for all of us tonight, as lows drop into the 60s.

Tomorrow’s Tennessee Weather 

Showers and thunderstorms threaten us all on Thursday. Afternoon highs will be in the 80s. Humid conditions will make it feel much warmer.

NASA Nerdology 

The NIRAC camera, which is operating on the ISS, captured #CrewDragon‘s approach to the ISS April 24. NIRAC studies lower atmospheric processes that affect space weather & uses airglow for nighttime imagery applications.
