MM’s Wx Concerns

Any storm that develops could produce heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and deadly cloud-to-ground lightning. Be careful if you’re out and about, especially if you’re on roadways that become covered in water during the heavier downpours.

Today’s Stats

Almanac for Yesterday

On This Day in Wx History

1997- Baseball-size hail is reported at Elmwood (Smith County). In another incident, lightning strikes the chimney of a Portland, Tennessee, house and sends rocks, weighing as much as 50 pounds, 50 to 75 feet into the yard. The lightning chars a television antenna, twists several feet of gutters, and pulverizes three television sets inside the home.

Yesterday’s National Temperature Extremes

High:  109° at Stovepipe Wells, California

Low:   29° at Bodie, California

Today’s Tennessee Weather

A wetter pattern continues for the state today, with scattered showers and thunderstorms likely. Severe weather is not expected, but any storm could easily produce heavy downpours of rain that could lead to localized flash flooding. Clouds and showers will keep afternoon highs in the 80s.

Tonight’s Tennessee Weather

Rain chances continue overnight, along with some rumbles of thunder. Overnight lows will be near 70 degrees.

Tomorrow’s Tennessee Weather

The radar will light up with more scattered showers and thunderstorms for Friday, especially in the afternoon and evening. A later start to the storms will allow high temps to be warmer than on Thursday, climbing into the mid to upper 80s for most.

Tropics

Tropical Storm Henri may impact New England by the weekend. The track just keeps nudging a bit westward. The storm currently has winds of 70 mph and should become a hurricane today.
