Today’s Stats

Almanac for Yesterday

On This Day in Wx History

1881 – Forest fires in Michigan and Ontario resulted in ‘Yellow Day’ in the northeastern U.S. Twenty villages in Michigan burned, and a total of 500 persons were killed. Fires caused 2.3 million dollars in losses near Lake Huron. Candles were needed at the noon hour.

Yesterday’s National Temperature Extremes

High:  119° at Death Valley, California

Low:   19° at Peter Sinks, Utah

Tropics

An area of low pressure will trek through the Gulf this week and the enter the Atlantic. Development into a tropical storm is unlikely, but it will bring heavy rainfall to parts of the Southeast.

Hurricane Larry continues his trip across the Atlantic. The storm will not directly impact the US, though Bermuda will be brushed by this hurricane. Dangerous rip currents are expected along the East Coast this week from Larry’s swells.

Sun & Moon

Today’s Tennessee Weather

After some patchy morning fog, a nice Tuesday is in store for Tennessee. Mostly sunny skies are expected, along with afternoon high temps in the 80s. The only risk for a thunderstorm is found across southeast Tennessee by the afternoon. That rain chance is about 30%.

Tonight’s Tennessee Weather

After a lingering evening storm in the southeast, look for clear to partly cloudy skies during the overnight. Overnight lows will be in the mid to upper 60s.

Tomorrow’s Tennessee Weather

Wednesday offers the best rain chance of the week, though that chance isn’t all that high. Look for 30% storm chances across Middle and East Tennessee, especially during the afternoon. High temps will be near 90 degrees for the Memphis area, where sunny skies will prevail. Clouds and storm chances will keep highs in the low to mid 80s for Middle and East Tennessee.
