Almanac for Yesterday

On This Day in Wx History
1988 – Cool air sweeping into the north central U.S. brought snow to some of the higher elevations of Montana. The town of Kings Hill, southeast of Great Falls, was blanketed with six inches of snow. Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Gilbert strengthened into a hurricane over the eastern Caribbean. Gotta love the change of seasons!
Yesterday’s National Temperature Extremes
High: 118° at Death Valley, California
Low: 23° at Peter Sinks, Utah
Tropics
The tropics remain active. A storm is expected to form off the east coast of Mexico this weekend. That system will bring heavy rainfall to both Mexico and parts of southern Texas. Another area of low pressure will emerge off the coast of Africa in the coming days, likely developing into a tropical storm. There’s much to track and that’s what I’ll be doing!
Larry continues to spin out to sea.

Sun & Moon

Today’s Tennessee Weather
A beautiful September day is in store for Tennessee. After some morning fog, expect mostly sunny skies and highs near 80 degrees for much of the state. West Tennessee will see warmer temps, with highs in the mid 80s. That warmth spreads eastward for Saturday.

Tonight’s Tennessee Weather
Under starry skies, overnight temps will fall into the 50s for much of the state.

Tomorrow’s Tennessee Weather
Sunny skies prevail, but temperatures will be warmer on Saturday than they were on Friday. Still, low humidity levels will make highs in the 80s feel less oppressive.

This week’s newsletter is about why some folks count August fogs and how many have been counted this year. I also have a very intriguing article about a man who rode a parachute through a thunderstorm. These stories and more can be found in this week’s newsletter. Register to get your letter today! You’ll be glad you did! Keep in mind that proceeds from these letters go to support my education outreach programs.
