Good afternoon, everyone. Beginning at 3:00 p.m., we’ll need to become weather-aware. That just means that starting at 3:00 you’ll need to be paying attention to the weather and making sure your severe weather safety plan is in place. I have all kinds of good tips on a tab to this page. We have learned many times in the past that storm systems speed up and slow down and that is why I am often so flexible with my threat time spans..
Keep in mind that I only cover the plateau counties of Cumberland and Fentress, as I’m basically just one person 🙂 If you need weather for another area, please see their local weather source, especially if it’s in another state or more than 50 miles away. Those of you in surrounding counties can certainly benefit from this blog, but keep in mind my focus is on only two counties.
Everyone needs to be mindful of the potential for some heavy rainfall with this system.
WHAT: Strong to severe thunderstorms. A tornado is possible.
WHEN: Likely threat timeframe is 5:00 – 9:00 p.m.
WHERE: Cumberland County

The map below is the updated tornado probabilities. As you can see, the greatest threat is to our southwest. Never the less, the higher threat is close by and we remain highlighted in a tornado threat all across our region. Storms will move east and northeast. The low probability for a tornado won’t mean much to you if your neighborhood is the one hit.
FYI, if you know someone in northern Mississippi, northern Alabama or southern Middle Tennessee please text or call them to make sure they are paying attention to the weather. A strong, possibly long-track tornado is possible down there this afternoon. A tornado watch has just been issued for north Mississippi and the southern counties of West TN until 7:00 pm.

WHAT: Strong to severe thunderstorms. A tornado is possible but very unlikely.
WHEN: Likely threat timeframe is 5:00 – 9:00 p.m.
WHERE: Fentress County
The more unstable air will stay south of Fentress County. This does not mean you all can completely let your guard down, but it means that you can relax more than folks to your south. Still, you will need to be weather aware this evening.
