I’ll post updates, as needed, for the rest of the day. Just keep it right here and I’ll keep you informed.
A wind advisory has been issued for all of Middle TN through the rest of the day. Wind gusts to 40 mph from the southwest are possible. Make sure loose objects are secured outside. Prepare for sporadic power outages from these winds and be able to get weather info even if you have no power.
Severe storms are possible this afternoon and evening. All modes of severe weather are possible, including tornadoes. A strong tornado is possible. Some of the severe thunderstorms could produce straight-line winds to 75 mph, especially within the line of storms coming this evening.
Once that line passes through, the severe threat will end.
Let’s start being weather-aware at noon and paying attention to the weather. The threat timeframe is now 1:00-9:00 to account for the possibility of supercells this afternoon ahead of the main line of storms.
Just in case you’re wondering why we’re concerned about severe weather on January 1….this is a map of today’s high temperatures. Look at that temperature contrast from one side of the front to the other!
My concern remains high.
