WHAT: Light wintry mix of freezing rain, sleet, and snow
WHEN: Wednesday night (after midnight) and Thursday morning
HAZARDS: Very slick roads late Wednesday night & Thursday morning
Good evening, folks. I just wanted give you a brief update on Wednesday night’s precip.
First of all, precip during the day on Wednesday will be rain. We will warm into the 40s, so no worries with wintry precip during the day. Roads should improve a lot tomorrow, especially since we may not even go below freezing tonight, though we will be in that 32-34 degree zone. Temps may even rise later in the night, as southerly flow returns.
Rainfall amounts on Wednesday should average around one half inch. That rain will likely start around lunchtime.
As cold air returns Wednesday night, precip may turn to freezing rain, then sleet, and then snow. All three of these would be on the light side. Ice will not accumulate enough to create tree or powerline damage. HOWEVER, although the precip amounts are light, you should expect HIGH impacts to travel late Wednesday night and Thursday morning. Even a glaze of ice on a road can create very dangerous driving conditions.
As the precip turns to snow, up to one inch of snow accumulation may fall, though amounts closer to 1/4 and 1/2 inch are likely to be more common. If sleet mixes in a lot the snow amounts will be lower than that.
Just be aware that road conditions are liable to be hazardous again late Wednesday night and into Thursday morning. Also, temps will not climb above freezing Thursday, prolonging bad road conditions, especially on the back roads.
I’ll keep an eye on things! Hopefully, the cold air moving in will push all the moisture out. We’ll certainly hope for that!
You all take care and have a great evening! I’ll have a full blog update in the morning.
