MM’s Winter Wx Concerns
Guidance continues to trend drier for s on Tuesday. That system will likely go to far to our south to be of any consequence to our area.
Yet another system will be monitored for Friday. Right now, moisture looks very limited with that system, but I’ll keep an eye on it.
On This Day in Wx History
1963- The strongest cold front in mid state history brings heavy snow and an unprecedented drop in temperature. Nashville receives 6.2″ of snow. In addition, the high temperature reaches 48 degrees, but plummets to -13 degrees by midnight, for a range of 61 degrees! This is the greatest daily range of temperatures in Nashville’s history.
2016- A major two-day snowstorm dumps several inches of snow across nearly all of Middle Tennessee, mainly on January 22. Nashville measures 8″, the third highest January snowfall on record. Other snow totals include 10″ at Springfield, 13.5″ near Lafayette, and 15″ near Jamestown.

The data cutoff for Drought Monitor maps is each Tuesday at 7 a.m. The maps, which are based on analysis of the data, are released each Thursday at 7:30 a.m. This week’s latest map is seen below.
