MM’s Wx Concerns

There are indications that winds could become gusty Thursday night. With soils so saturated, we need to be leery of shallow-rooted trees. These trees could fall and lead to some power outages. I’ll keep a close eye on this situation, but I wanted to make you aware of this concern.
MM’s Winter Wx Concerns

On This Day in Wx History
1936 – A severe blizzard in the Sierra Nevada Range closed Donner Pass. It stranded 750 motorists and claimed seven lives.
1802 – A great snowstorm raged along the New England coast producing 48 inches of snow north of Boston. Three large ships from Salem were wrecked along Cape Cod.

This week’s newsletter focuses on the tornado outbreak in TN on February 21, 1993 (Cumberland County was hit too!). Then, the blizzard came just weeks later! What a wild ride that was! I talk all about how it all happened in this week’s letter.

Saving our Hardwoods
Please help us work to save the hardwoods in the Catoosa Wildlife Management Area for present and future generations. Will you consider signing the petition to save our hardwoods from being harvested at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSflavN4JIaw4nN18fYF3-pw9GMYYo2-D5D5Di6kB0hF7uF1SQ/viewform.
An informational meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 8, at 6:00 pm at the Community Complex. Marvin Bullock from the White County Chamber of Commerce will give a very helpful presentation on how to make your voices heard. His work to save the Bridgestone-Firestone Wilderness area of White County has given him a wealth of information to share that we can apply to the work to stop clear-cutting on Catoosa. Representatives from the TWRA have also been invited via email and certified letter.
I’m working on a Facebook page dedicated to saving the Catoosa hardwoods. Stay tuned for that!
