On September 12, 1961 President Kennedy addressed a crowd at Rice University and delivered one of the most powerful speeches ever given in favor of exploring the Heavens. “We choose to go to the moon. We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard, because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills.”

Skies should gradually become sunnier as we go through the day. It will be a cool day, with a fall feal to the air. That cool air will drop us to around 50 degrees for an overnight low. The rest of the week will feature mostly sunny skies, with afternoon temps warming more and more each day.

HISTORY

On This Day 

1979 – Hurricane Frederick smashed into the Mobile Bay area of Alabama packing 132 mph winds. Winds gusts to 145 mph were reported as the eye of the hurricane moved over Dauphin Island, Alabama, just west of Mobile. Frederick produced a fifteen foot storm surge near the mouth of Mobile Bay. The hurricane was the costliest in U.S. history to that date causing 2.3 billion dollars damage. 

1959 –  Luna 2 launched by USSR; 1st spacecraft to impact on the Moon.
