Sunny days and starry nights continue! The one difference is that you may notice humidity increasing by Sunday. Heat and humidity are expected to combine to create hot afternoons by Tuesday and Wednesday. There is still no measureable rainfall in sight.

Hiking weather continues to look good for the next several days, especially in the mornings. Be safe on trails that have lots of sun exposure in the afternoons on Tuesday and Wednesday.

HISTORY

On This Day 

1989 – Hurricane Hugo hit the Virgin Islands, producing wind gusts to 97 mph at Saint Croix. Hurricane Hugo passed directly over the island of Saint Croix causing complete devastation and essentially cutting off the island from communications. A storm surge of five to seven feet occurred at Saint Croix. The only rain gauge left operating, at Caneel Bay, indicated 9.40 inches in 24 hours. Hurricane Hugo claimed the lives of three persons at Saint Croix, and caused more than 500 million dollars damage. A ship, Nightcap, in the harbor of Culebra, measured wind gusts as high as 170 mph!

It now looks like Fiona will become a hurricane by Monday. Thankfully, it also looks like the storm will stay out in the Atlantic and away from the US coastline.

    Something is amiss with the photo caption. President Reagan was first inaugurated on January 20, 1981. Gerald Ford was president in 1976.
