MM’s Level of Concern

MM’s Forecast for the Plateau
Local matters, especially when it comes to your weather forecast! Bringing you your local weather since 2017!
This forecast is tailor-made for the Cumberland Plateau by Meteorologist Mark Baldwin each day!
Thankfully, some of us got some rain yesterday. Hopefully we’ll all get rain by the time this week is over.
Today looks warm and humid. We should stay dry.
Our next best chance for rain comes Monday night. That rain comes with a risk for severe storms, so we’ll have to watch that closely. A line of strong to severe storms could impact the region Monday night, carrying the threat for a damaging straight-line wind gust. Hopefully we get some beneficial rainfall with that system.
Yet another severe storm threat is developing for Tuesday night. That risk is being monitored very closely.
We turn much cooler the end of next week. Frost can’t be ruled out.

The risk for below normal temps the first week of May continues to increase. We may see a risk for frost. I’ll keep you posted.

Threat Outlook
Be sure to follow this site and/or download the free Meteorologist Mark app from your app store to get updates about the weather of the Cumberland Plateau sent to your phone as soon as I send them out. Thank you all so much!
I maintain the same threat levels for Monday night as I have from the beginning. Trends have been decreasing this threat, which is good! However, stay tuned for any updates.
The severe storm threat for Tuesday night is increasing. Right now, I have the threat levels exactly the same as Monday night’s threat levels. However, stay tuned. This threat has shown a trend for increasing, so stay tuned.

Today’s severe threats are focused on Kansas. All hazards are possible there today.

By Monday, the severe threat moves much closer to the plateau, with that threat arriving here overnight Monday. The plateau continues to be outlined in the lowest of the five risk categories. Storms will be most severe back toward the Mississippi River. As they progress eastward after sunset, they will evolve into a line of strong storms. That line is expected to gradually weaken as it crosses Middle TN. Whatever is leftover is what we will get on the plateau, which will likely consists of gusty winds and rain. Hopefully, we’ll at least get rain.

The SPC is also monitoring a risk for severe storms for Tuesday night for our area.

The greatest tornado risk, shown below, continues to be focused well to our northwest. Our tornado risk isn’t zero here on the plateau, so we’ll still have to watch this closely.

Currently, the greatest tornado risk looks to be across West TN and Arkansas with the Tuesday night activity. However, the threat has been trending upward and it has trended eastward toward us. Stay tuned for updates.
