For the risk for flash flooding
Moving water that is 12″ deep can sweep away a car. Water that is 18-24″ can sweep away any truck or SUV (or larger) vehicle. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

This forecast is tailor-made for the Cumberland Plateau by Meteorologist Mark Baldwin each day!

Scattered showers and storms likely again today, with the potential for flash flooding.

Like yesterday, there will be numerous showers and thunderstorms across the plateau today. Some of you will get very heavy downpours and a couple of you may not get anything. I picked up 0.4″ on Monday, while some of you picked up over an inch of rain. That’s the nature of the scattered showers and storms.

On Wednesday, our chances drop to 50%. By Thursday, I think we’re just looking at a sunny and hot day. Thursday’s forecast has continued to trend drier.

Another system moves in Friday, bringing more showers and storms to the area, before we get another dry day on Saturday. Looking ahead to Sunday, it’s looking like another 50/50 shot at a shower or storm.

This forecast is tailor-made for the Cumberland Plateau by Meteorologist Mark Baldwin each day!

Scattered showers and storms will be widespread across the plateau today. Heavy rainfall could lead to instances of flash flooding and we’ll need to be mindful of this threat today. Be safe if you’re out and about and remember to never drive across flooded roadways, especially if the water is swifty moving.

The elevated rain chances will be with us through Wednesday, with a possible break coming Thursday. Then, rain chances ramp back up for Friday.

Widespread severe weather is not expected but flash flooding could occur. An isolated strong/severe storm can never be ruled out.

Sunday Afternoon Update: Flood Watch

MM’s Forecast for the Plateau

This forecast is tailor-made for the Cumberland Plateau by Meteorologist Mark Baldwin each day!

Flood watches are being issued for Monday for all of Middle and East TN. Scattered showers and storms could produce torrential rainfall that could lead to some flooding issues.

It is currently unclear where the heaviest of rainfall will occur, but confidence is increasing that heavy rainfall that could lead to some flooding will occur. I’ll keep ya posted!

Radar currently shows a lot of rain to our south. That has been very slowly moving north and east. A similar situation may occur over us tomorrow.

The dry weather is coming to an end.

Humidity levels continued increasing yesterday and they’ll increase even more today. By this afternoon, it will feel downright muggy outside. That extra humidity will combine with afternoon heat to bring us a chance for afternoon/evening showers and storms. Keep an eye on the radar if you’re out and about today.

A front moving into the area really ramps up our rain chances for the start of the week. Look for numerous scattered showers and thunderstorms Monday through at least Wednesday. Heavy downpours of rain could lead to flash flooding with any stronger storm.
