Today the Artemis crew does their fly by of the Moon!!! This is the first time we’ve maneauvered such a move since 1972! Per NASA, Artemis II will be able to see the Apollo 12 and Apollo 14 landing sites tomorrow during the flyby. What an exciting day!!

Track Artemis at https://www.nasa.gov/missions/artemis-ii/arow/ (I advise doing the short tutorial they provide).

MM’s Forecast for the Plateau

Local matters, especially when it comes to your weather forecast! Bringing you your local weather since 2017!

This forecast is tailor-made for the Cumberland Plateau by Meteorologist Mark Baldwin each day!

Well, the weather has turned boring on us but NASA is keeping things exciting with their lunar fly-by today!

As for our weather, we have nothing but sunshine and dry weather to look forward to this week. There will be clouds from time to time, but sunshine should dominate.

I don’t think we’ll be cold enough for frost tonight (although the coldest areas may see some?), but we will see more widespread frost Tuesday night.

Then, the most exciting thing is that it gets a bit windier on Thursday, with gusts to 20 mph, which isn’t too bad but it may kick up a wildfire risk.

Drought conditions will worsen this week, so please try to use water wisely.

This forecast is tailor-made for the Cumberland Plateau by Meteorologist Mark Baldwin each day!

The rain has moved east and skies will gradually clear today. It’s looking like a decent Easter Sunday!

Clearer skies and calmer winds will lead to scattered frost tonight. We’ll see chances for frost again Monday night and especially on Tuesday night. Then, we start another warming trend.

We now enter an extended period of dry weather. This will worsen drought conditions in the coming days. There are indications that mid April may turn wetter for us.

8:30 PM Update: Severe Threats End

Issued Saturday, April 4, 2026, at 8:30 pm

The severe threat has ended for the evening, folks. The Storm Prediction Center just dropped us out of the marginal risk and we no longer have any threats highlighted for us. It was always a low-end threat, but after that one severe storm moved from near Carthage to Celina the line dramatically weakened down.

So, look for rain and thunder tonight but no severe storms.

Saturday Afternoon Update

Issued Saturday afternoon of April 4, 2026, at 3:07

For the risk for a strong to severe storm

Check out the new radar, brought to us by WeatherTAP! Let me know if you have any feedback! And thank you to those who have given feedback. That is GREATLY appreciated!

Be sure to follow this site and/or download the free Meteorologist Mark app from your app store to get updates about the weather of the Cumberland Plateau sent to your phone as soon as I send them out. Thank you all so much!

Afternoon Update

Local matters, especially when it comes to your weather forecast! Bringing you your local weather since 2017!

Things continue to look good for us, folks. There are some showers and storms east of us, roughly from Knoxville to Chattanooga but they are not severe and they are moving eastward and away from us. The most concentrated line of showers and storms is west of Nashville across West TN. There are no warnings with any of these storms and I’ve not noticed a single warning with this part of the line all day. That’s good news!

We’ll continue to call this a weather alert evening, especially from 6:00- 10:00 pm, just in case an isolated severe storm develops on the plateau. That risk remains very low.

The hourly forecast below is still on track! I can’t think of anything to change on it from this morning’s update. Rain chances will begin increasing areawide after 6:00, with the chance for an isolated shower or storm until then. I will say that the latest data shows that all the rain will be out of here by 8:00 Sunday morning. In fact, the heaviest rain moves east by 5:00 a.m., with only scattered showers from then until 7:00.

I’ll keep an eye on things and let you know if there’s anything at all that you need to know about with this evening’s storms. I’ll also let you know when I think the threat is over. I should add that no watches are planned for our area and I don’t expect any to be issued, due to the low-end, isolated risk for a severe storm.

The map of storm reports for today has been very quiet! That’s a good thing, too!

The Storm Prediction Center just updated their outlook at 3:00 p.m. and they maintain a marginal risk for our area, which is the lowest of the five risk categories. The greatest risk for severe storms today is across northern Ohio.
