MM’s Forecast for the Plateau

Local matters, especially when it comes to your weather forecast! Bringing you your local weather since 2017!

This forecast is tailor-made for the Cumberland Plateau by Meteorologist Mark Baldwin each day!

An itty bitty chance for a shower or storm today.

Most of us stay dry today….maybe even all of us. But, at least there’s a chance for a shower or even a storm. That’s thanks to a front moving through the area today. The best chance for a shower or storm is along and north of a line from Livingston to Jamestown to Oneida.

That front is weak but it will pass through and bring drier air to the area on Sunday. That drier air, coupled with gusty winds and drought conditions, will create very elevated wildfire risks across the plateau. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged.

Rain chances may increase for us the end of next week. Fingers crossed!

Threat Outlook

There is an elevated risk for wildfires in our region for Sunday. Low humidity, drought conditions, and gusty winds will cause that fire danger to be elevated.

A large area of marginal risk can be seen up the centreal U.S. for today, with the greatest risk for severe storms being in the yellow-shaded area of Texas.

6-10 Day Temp & Precip Outlook

I’m beginning to think the best rains will stay to our west through much, if not all, of this month.

The Climate Prediction Center doubled down on their threat of heat the 18th-19th. I’m not sure I have ever seen heat so emphasized in April before. This would not go well with our drought.

MM’s Fri 5-Day: Sunny Skies & Tracking Artemis’ Return

Issued Friday morning, April 10, 2026

Track Artemis at https://www.nasa.gov/missions/artemis-ii/arow/. The astronauts will return home Friday evening at 7:07 CDT with a splashdown in the Pacific Ocean. We’re hoping and praying for a safe return. Re-entry has plenty of dangers and we certainly want our astronauts to make it home safe!

This forecast is tailor-made for the Cumberland Plateau by Meteorologist Mark Baldwin each day!

It’ll be sunny when the Artemis crew splashes down in the Pacific this evening and it’ll be sunny here in TN, too!

Dry weather will persist through the next five days, with only a 20% chance for a shower or storm for Saturday. That is mainly for you folks closer to the Kentucky border (ie. Livingston, Jamestown, Oneida).

The most active weather of this period will occur over the southern Plains this weekend and into next week. That will not impact us. Hopefully, remnants of that big storm system will bring us some showers the end of next week, but right now that’s not looking too exciting.

The Climate Prediction Center continues to monitor a potential heavy rain threat that could bring much-needed rainfall to our area after the middle of the month….hopefully.

Interestingly, they’re also monitoring the threat for hot temps around the 17-18th of the month.

Sunny & dry days continue. All this sunshine is making me sleepy. lol

We could use some rain, as the drought monitor update today shows. All of the plateau is now in drought. Hopefully we’ll get some rain next week.

The most active weather of this period will occur over the southern Plains this weekend and into next week. That will not impact us.
