MM’s Forecast for the Plateau

This forecast is tailor-made for the Cumberland Plateau by Meteorologist Mark Baldwin each day!

It looks like a hot and humid day on the plateau.

High pressure is firmly in control, and that should keep us dry again today.

By Friday, another front brings a much greater risk for showers and storms. Some of the storms could be strong/severe. They could also produce torrential rainfall. I’ll keep an eye on that.

Winds on Friday will be a bit breezy, gusting from the southwest at up to 20 mph.

Saturday looks dry before another system moves in Sunday and Monday with more showers and storms likely. Sunday will also bring breezy southwest winds of up to 20 mph.

Cumberland County Tornado: This EF1 tornado touched down near Highway 70 about 3.6 miles northwest of downtown Crossville. A home on the south side of Highway 70 west of Ivey Road was destroyed when it slid off its foundation, and a couple of outbuildings were destroyed on the north side of the highway. The tornado crossed Interstate 40 and caused minor damage to a hotel roof before lifting near Highway 127.

Fentress County Tornado #1: This low end EF-1 tornado touched down west of the intersection of Bicknell Rd. and Leamon Hall Rd. and traveled toward the ENE before lifting west of Larue Lane Dozens of trees were uprooted and snapped causing damage to two homes and a few outbuildings. High resolution satellite imagery was very helpful in determining the path of this tornado.

Fentress County Tornado #2: This EF-1 tornado touched down south of the Jamestown Municipal Airport near Highway 127 and traveled over 11 miles toward the east-northeast before lifting near Charley Hull Loop Road. The tornado uprooted and snapped hundreds of trees along the path. Over a dozen outbuildings and barns were completely destroyed, and several houses sustained roof and window damage. Rain chances continue to trend down for today and tomorrow.

Still, with this much heat and humidity, there is always the risk for an isolated shower or storm, especially in the afternoon and evening.

3:45 pm Tues Afternoon Update

Issued June 9, 2026

Local matters, especially when it comes to your weather forecast! Bringing you your local weather since 2017!

MM’s Forecast for the Plateau

Heavy rainfall and the risk for a strong storm will be with us through the evening. Some of the rainfall could be very heavy, especially if storms around Nashville survive to get here this evening. Be careful if out and about.

This is one of the most humid days I’ve ever felt here on the plateau. AC is our friend today! ha All this heat and humidity can fuel up some storms, so watch that radar through the evening.

MM’s Tues 5-Day: Flood Watch Continues Today

Your local forecast issued on Tuesday, June 9, 2026

Flood watch again today for most of Middle TN.

For the risk for flash flooding
Moving water that is 12″ deep can sweep away a car. Water that is 18-24″ can sweep away any truck or SUV (or larger) vehicle. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

MM’s Forecast for the Plateau

This forecast is tailor-made for the Cumberland Plateau by Meteorologist Mark Baldwin each day!

Scattered showers and storms likely again today, with the potential for flash flooding.

Like yesterday, there will be numerous showers and thunderstorms across the plateau today. Some of you will get very heavy downpours and a couple of you may not get anything. I picked up 0.4″ on Monday, while some of you picked up over an inch of rain. That’s the nature of the scattered showers and storms.

On Wednesday, our chances drop to 50%. By Thursday, I think we’re just looking at a sunny and hot day. Thursday’s forecast has continued to trend drier.

Another system moves in Friday, bringing more showers and storms to the area, before we get another dry day on Saturday. Looking ahead to Sunday, it’s looking like another 50/50 shot at a shower or storm.
