MM’s Weather Worries

MM’s Wx Analysis

A storm system to our northwest will gather strength today and produce severe storms from the central U.S. to the Ohio Valley. High pressure will hold for us again today. Meanwhile, moisture from the south will be moving north. That moisture is leftover showers and storms from the frontal system that impacted us last week. The two systems should work together to give us a good chance for rain on Monday.

MM’s Wx Summary & Analysis

This afternoon’s weather map shows a warm front to our south. That front will lift north tonight and Sunday, bringing a chance for a shower or storm to the plateau Sunday afternoon. That area of low pressure you see in Colorado will move east tonight and help make this front even more intense to our northwest on Sunday, with the potential for some significant severe weather focused on Missouri and Illinois. That front moves closer to our region on Monday, bringing widespread showers and storms. Some of the storms could be severe and some of the rainfall could be heavy. I’ll keep an eye on things!

11:35 a.m. Thursday Update

Issued June 18, 2026

Local matters, especially when it comes to your weather forecast! Bringing you your local weather since 2017!

MM’s Forecast Update for the Plateau

At 11:35, WxTAP radar shows a band of heavy rain moving northeast from southern Middle TN at this hour. This band of scattered showers and storms could produce gusty winds, torrential rainfall, and lightning. It will be impacting the plateau over the next couple of hours. A severe t-storm can’t be ruled out.

For perspective, by 12:15 it should be getting close to Sparta. By 12:30 it should be getting close to Crossville. Just keep an eye on that radar in case its speed changes.

The latest update from the Storm Prediction Center at 11:15 maintains a marginal risk for severe storms for our area through the afternoon. No watches are in effect and there are currently no warnings in effect for anyone in the state. Some storms have special weather statements issued for them for gusty winds but nothing is severe at this time. Hopefully we just get some rain!

I suspect that after this band of rain and storms coming in from the south moves in, our severe threat for the rest of the day will diminish (it’s already a low-end threat, even before these storms get here).

Be careful if out and about today. If you encounter one of these heavier downpours they can put down a lot of rain in a short period of time. I’ll keep an eye on things!
