MM’s Forecast for the Week of July 13-17

This is Sunday evening, July 12, 2026

I’m looking forward to my visit to the Cumberland Child Care Center on Monday! I’ll be talking to the kiddos about the weather!

Also, I’ve got my fingers crossed for another NASA Social. NASA will be sending out nofications on Friday for those who are accepted to cover next months’s launch of the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope. I’m really hoping I get accepted. I’ll keep ya posted!

5-Day Forecast

MM says…Nothing major on my radar this week. It’s a rather typical summer forecast!

You’ll notice the confidence bars under each day. The more darker blue you see, the more confident I am in that day’s forecast.

MM’s Weather Worries

Thankfully, I don’t foresee severe t-storms for the plateau this week. Any storm can, of course, be breifly strong, but widespread severe weather is certainly not expected.

That flash flooding threat would be greatest with any storm on Monday and Tuesday.

MM’s Wx Analysis

For Monday, our stalled out fronts and unstable atmosphere will continue to bring elevated chances for scattered showers and storms.

By Tuesday evening, that front sags south of our area and begins to wash out, as summer fronts do.

By the middle to end of the week, weak high pressure begins to take control, reducing our shower and storm chances.

The jetstream is way up in Canada this week, though it does dip into the New England area. By Tuesday, that active jet may bring an elevated risk for severe storms to New England.

Additional Analysis

There’s nothing to talk about in our tropics, so we have to go to the Pacific to find anything interesting. And it sure is interesting over there! They have five areas to watch in the coming days! These will have no impact on our weather.

El Nino is indeed rapidly strengthening! This could have implications for us as we go into the rest of summer and fall. It certainly ipacts the tropics. In the Pacific it makes for a more active season with all that hot water. In the Atlantic it makes for a much quieter season due to wind shear tearing storms apart.

New episodes will be coming this week! Stay tuned!

8:00 Saturday Evening Update

Issued Saturday, July 11, 2026

Through Sunday for all of Middle and East TN

Strong storms have been impacting parts of the plateau over the past hour. So far, nothing has been warned but some of you have been letting me know how noisy some of these storms are. More storms are moving toward the plateau and will be crossing the plateau over the next couple of hours. Frequent lightning is possible, as well as gusty winds and heavy rainfall.

Overall, the severe risk is low. Hopefully, we just get some rain! Additional scattered showers and storms are likely throughout the night. I’ll issue special updates, if needed.

Please stay alert to any watches or warnings that may be issued. And please stay tuned to any special updates that I may need to issue. You all take care!

5:00 Saturday Special Update

Issued Saturday, July 11, 2026

For the risk for flash flooding and the risk for isolated severe storms.
Through Sunday for all of Middle and East TN

Good evening, folks! We’ve enjoyed a break that, for many of us, has held through the afternoon. Those of you around Sparta have been dealing with storms afternoon, as well as you folks over in Morgan County. More storms are moving into the Sparta area even now.

The greatest risk for storms over the next hour will be across White and southern Cumberland County. There’s also a storm developing near Carthage, as well as a line of storms just behind it, that will be pushing toward Cookeville within the hour. As you can see by the radar below, more scattered showers and storms are coming for later this evening for a great many of us. Some of these storms could be strong or even severe.

Much of the activity on radar is what I was talking about in the last update that would be nearing the plateau sometime around the 6:00 hour. Rather than forming into a complex of storms, it has managed to form a few lines of storms, along with other scattered shrs and storms. In other words, it’s a bit disorganized, which reduces (but doesn’t eliminate) the severe storm threat. I’ll watch all of this closely.

Still, looking at radar, we have plenty of shower and storm chances left for this evening and even into tonight. I’ll do another special update later this evening, or as needed, to keep you updated on the latest. At this time there are no watches or warnings across Middle TN.

Thankfully, the hourly forecast continues to be on track and I haven’t made any changes since the last update.

Please stay alert to any watches or warnings that may be issued. And please stay tuned to any special updates that I may need to issue. You all take care!
