The severe t-storm watch has been cancelled early. A flash flood watch remains in effect until Wednesday morning.

With the front slowing down so much, rain and storm chances may linger into the early afternoon of Wednesday. The NWS said they may extend the flash flood watch past the early morning deadline. I’ll have a full update on this in the morning forecast update.

The warning that was in effect for western Putnam County was cancelled a few minutes early, thanks to the storm weakening substantially on radar.

Storms were very severe earlier in Kentucky. Then, severe storms blew up over the Nashville area. Both of those big batches of storms really drained a lot of the energy from our atmosphere.

The severe storm threat continues to diminish for the plateau. I expect the severe t-storm watch to be cancelled early and I’ll let you know when that happens.

Remember, we remain under a flash flood watch through the night, as this front slowly makes it way south.

A severe t-storm warning has been issued for western Putnam County and much of Jackson County (including Gainsboro). This is does not include Baxter or Cookeville. This warning expires at 9:00 pm. There has been some rotation with this storm. Straight-line winds to 70 mph are being indicated by Doppler west of Carthage. The warned area can be seen on the map below in orange. A severe t-storm watch remains in effect until midnight (unless cancelled early).

If you know anyone traveling on I-40 west of Baxter this evening make sure they’re aware of this storm.

The only warning that remains is the flash flood warning for the northern half of Overton and Fentress counties, as well as all of Pickett County.

The good news is that storms in our area are losing their punch. The front has continued to slow down and that’s a good thing when it comes to severe storms. However, that may enhance the flash flood threat. This slower motion may mean that this activity doesn’t reach I-40 for at least another hour. This front is really slamming on its brakes! ha

These storms contain frequent lightning but hopefully that will calm down too.

I’ll keep an eye on things but I wanted to let you all know that I’m feeling much better about our weather. I know many of you get very nervous when severe storms threaten, especially when you see dramatic graphics shared on social media. We’re on a good trend but we’ll also remain weather aware until the threat passes. I’ll keep ya posted!
