9:15 pm Weather Update

Issued July 28, 2026

The severe threat has ended for us, thank goodness. Man, they sure had some rough storms in East TN! There’s even video of a possible tornado that occurred in the rural countryside near Maryville.

Now, we can see some of the distant lightning from those storms. There was quite the lightning show for you folks across southern areas of the plateau. Thanks to all of you who sent me video!

Now, the Moon is absolutely beautiful and it is such a nice evening. It’s a lil humid, but it’s also July 28. lol

You all take care. I’ll see ya in the morning for the morning forecast update! Thanks for trusting me with your weather, and thanks for letting me tell you when to look up and pay attention to the beautiful things God puts in our skies!

Beautiful Clouds from Storms in the Mtns.

Issued July 28, 2026

If you have a good view of the southeast sky, you can see the towering and beautiful thunderheads from the big severe storms over in the mountains. Those storm clouds are huge! I’ve been out taking pictures of them and they just keep changing colors and appearance with the evening light changing. Step out and take a look if you can!

Severe T-Storm Watch for East TN

Issued July 28, 2026 at 12:20 pm

The Storm Prediction Center just issued a severe t-storm watch for East TN until 7:00 pm CDT. If you’re planning to travel that direction this afternoon/evening or know someone who is, this needs to be considered. An isolated tornado can’t be ruled out.

As for the plateau, we’re right on the western edge of this. This doesn’t mean our risk is zero, but it is much lower compared to folks just to our east. A map of the watch can be seen below. This does not include Scott or Morgan County, but it’s too close for comfort.

As you all know, I’ll keep a very close eye on things and issue special updates, as needed.
