Storms may develop across the area as we go through the next several hours. I’ll keep an eye on them and issue special updates, if needed.

For now, there are storms in the Spring City area that are severe. Those are moving east toward Sweetwater. Other storms may develop as we go through the evening and any of those could be severe. We have a disturbance moving in from the west and plenty of warm and humid air for it to play with! We’ll just watch the radar and see how the situation evolves in the coming hours.

My concern for this evening. We’ll see if this changes in the coming hours.

Special update issued August 20 at 4:50 a.m.

The line of storms I’ve been tracking is coming onto the plateau this morning right on schedule. It’s going to be a very wet and thundery morning commute. Please drive safely.

These storm have packed a punch to our west overnight. Thankfully, they are weakening as they approach the plateau. Still, very gusty winds, frequent lightning, and very heavy rainfall can be expected with these storms this morning. I still can’t rule an isolated severe storm with this stuff. There is a severe storm warning for Monticello, KY, just across the Ky border but that part of the line is moving east.

The risk are the same as last night’s last update. The greatest risk is a damaging wind gust and flash flooding.

My concern meter is also unchanged. I’ll keep it parked here for now.

Special update issued August 19 at 10:00pm

I’ll be monitoring storms through the night.

A severe t-storm watch was just issued well to our west on the Arkansas/Missouri border until 3:00 a.m. It’s those storms that I’ll be tracking east. They should weaken as they approach the plateau, but I’ll watch them just in case they don’t.

Out of abundance of caution, I added the very low-end risk for a brief spin-up tornado. The main threat is a damaging wind gust and possible flash flooding.

I’ve updated the hourly forecast for tonight, as seen below.

And I’ll be using my concern meter again! This is where I am right now. We’ll see if this changes overnight.

As always, I’ll keep a very close eye on things. Overall, this is a low-end threat but it’s not zero. Just keep it right here to Meteorologist Mark! Thank you!
