Issued Wednesday morning, April 22, 2026
This map shows the number of tornado warnings issued by each NWS forecast office in the country for this entire year (as of April 21). The Morristown office for East TN has issued zero. The Nashville office has issued only four warnings for middle TN. Remarkably, the Huntsville, Alabama, office has only issued two warnings (they’re normally VERY active). I can’t remember a quieter spring. It’s also hard to remember a drier one.

MM’s Level of Concern

MM’s Forecast for the Plateau
Local matters, especially when it comes to your weather forecast! Bringing you your local weather since 2017!
This forecast is tailor-made for the Cumberland Plateau by Meteorologist Mark Baldwin each day!
Our nice weather continues.
We won’t see a chance of rain enter the picture until Friday. Even then, it’s only a 20% chance for an isolated shower or storm. Rain chances increase Friday night and into Saturday. Hopefully we can get some beneficial rainfall.
Severe weather is expected to develop over Arkansas on Friday and then push toward our area. By the time those storms reach our area, they should weaken below severe levels. However, I’ll keep an eye on that. That Friday night rain may get out of here by noon Saturday, leaving us with a dry afternoon and evening. Stay tuned to that portion of the forecast.
Rain chances drop back down to 20% for Sunday before a very powerful storm system comes at us from the west on Monday. That system may pack a punch, with strong storms and heavy rainfall. I’ll keep a very close eye on that.

Threat Outlook
The timing of this threat has changed since yesterday’s forecast. Friday night is what we’ll have to be mindful of. I’ll do a special update this evening to give you all the latest on this and to get a better sense of timing.
The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) is highlighting a marginal risk for Middle TN for Friday night. The storms will likely weaken below severe limits before reaching the plateau, but I’ll keep an eye on this. As you can see, the greater threat is during the day back over Arkansas.

In this morning’s update, the SPC scaled back the threat for Monday, completely removing the Cumberland Plateau. Still, we’ll be mindful of what happens to our west, as this could mean strong storms overnight Monday. I’m continuing to monitor this closely.

Be sure to follow this site and/or download the free Meteorologist Mark app from your app store to get updates about the weather of the Cumberland Plateau sent to your phone as soon as I send them out. Thank you all so much!
