Threat Outlook for the Plateau

MM’s Forecast for the Plateau

This forecast is tailor-made for the Cumberland Plateau by Meteorologist Mark Baldwin each day!

We’re on the lookout for scattered showers and storms today. Any storm could be strong and any of those stronger storms could produce flash flooding.

We’ll find a little bit of relief from today’s humidity by the breezy southwest winds that could gust to 20 mph.

Monday and Tuesday look dry and less humid! Enjoy the break from the humidity.

A chance for an isolated afternoon/evening shr or storm returns for Wednesday, before much better chances for more scattered showers and storms returns to the region Thursday. Winds Thursday look to be windy, gusting to 30 mph at times from the southwest. I’ll have to monitor Thursday for any severe storm risks that may come with those storms.

Special Saturday Night Update

Issued June 13, 2026

Special Saturday night update concerning storm potential tonight and Sunday.

Local matters, especially when it comes to your weather forecast! Bringing you your local weather since 2017!

MM’s Forecast Update for the Plateau

Scattered showers and storms will be possible through the night, especially after 10:00 pm. Any storm could be strong but widespread severe weather is not expected. The Storm Prediction Center has the plateau outlined in the marginal risk for severe storms overnight and Sunday. The marginal risk is the lowest of the five risk categories.

Radar shows a complex pattern to our west, with clusters of storms that will move east overnight and on Sunday. Forecasting the behavior of these storm clusters can be complicated, as we’ve seen in recent days. Sometimes they maintain intensity and make it to the plateau and bring us rain. Sometimes they weaken on approach and bring us gusty winds and a few sprinkles.

The storms you see in West TN on the radar at this hour may approach the plateau in the coming hours. I’ve been watching them and they are maintaing intensity but the sun will be setting soon and that may lead to some weakening. I’ll keep an eye on them.

Rain chances remain elevated Sunday morning and throughout the day. It’s entirely possible that some of us won’t see a drop, while others recieve beneficial rainfall. Such is the nature with “scattered” showers and storms. I’m keeping rain chances at 70% for Sunday.

If you have outdoor plans on Sunday, have a back-up indoor plan, just in case. If you’re out on the lake, etc. Keep an eye on the radar. Move indoors if you hear thunder.

I’ll keep an eye on things and issue a special update if there’s anything you need to know about.

You all take care and thank you for trusting me with your local forecast!

Threat Outlook for the Plateau

I will issue special updates, as needed, as we go through the weekend. If there’s anything you need to know about, I’ll let ya know!

MM’s Forecast for the Plateau

This forecast is tailor-made for the Cumberland Plateau by Meteorologist Mark Baldwin each day!

It’s another hot and humid day on the plateau!

And that heat and humidity could lead to an isolated shower or storm this afternoon or evening. Any storm that forms could be strong.

Another system moves in tonight and Sunday with more showers and storms likely. Sunday will also bring breezy southwest winds of up to 20 mph.

Storms Saturday night and Sunday could be on the strong side. I’ll keep a close eye on that.

Monday looks mostly dry (if not completely dry) and then Tuesday brings northwest breezes that will usher in low humidity levels, making for an absolutely beautiful day.

More shrs and storms return by Wednesday and especially Thursday.

2:15 pm Friday Afternoon Update

Issued June 12, 2026

Local matters, especially when it comes to your weather forecast! Bringing you your local weather since 2017!

MM’s Forecast Update for the Plateau

Our front is struggling to produce showers and storms this afternoon. The greater threat for such development will likely be to the east of Cumberland and Fentress counties. I’m reducing the rain chances today from 70% to 50%. Scattered shrs and storms will remain a possbility through the evening.

The severe storm threat has decreased, as well. Again, the greater risk for a strong or severe storm will likely stay east of us in Fentress and Cumberland counties. I’ll keep an eye on things for you folks in Morgan and Rhea counties. If anyone has travel plans toward Knoxville this evening make sure you pay attention to the weather, just in case a severe storm develops over that way this evening.

The boundary responsible for storms has moved onto the plateau. I’d say that the severe threat has ended for today for you folks along and west of a line from Byrdstown, to Livingston, to Cookeville, to Sparta.

I’ll keep an eye on the radar and let you know if there’s anything you need to know about! We’ll remain weather aware, just in case.

Hopefully our system for Saturday night and Sunday brings us all some rain. We have a rainfall deficit of over 9″ and climbing. In the summer of 1988 we had a deficit of rainfall this bad and we went on to have one of the hottest and driest summers on record. Let’s hope we don’t repeat that.

Again, I’ll keep an eye on the radar and let you know if anything develops that you need to know about.
